"And let us think about one another to stir up love and good acts, not neglecting to gather ourselves together, as some do, but exhorting one another, especially now that the Day is near."
-New King James Version, Hebrews 10:24-25
When you get together with other Christians, you learn from godly examples of conduct and beliefs that help you grow spiritually. You have folks who actively encourage you and walk beside you through your challenges and triumphs. How can you expect to enhance your spiritual progress if you don't learn from the knowledge and insight of other believers?
The Church helps individuals understand the meaning of their lives, even those who are not members of it. The Church awakens the spirituality among people, helping them survive through the most challenging times of their lives. The same happened with James.
James Development Through Church
Church has always been a big part of life for Levesque. As a kid, he would go with his mom every Sunday. Even though he was brought up Catholic, he found God through a youth group meeting at Groton Church in his teenage years. He became involved in the Church community and started going to weekly meetings. The Church helped him stay out of trouble and find direction in his life. In his father's absence, Church became like a second family for Levesque. It gave him a sense of community and belonging that he didn't find elsewhere. The Church helped Levesque turn his life around, and he credits it with saving him from a difficult childhood.
The influence of churches on James' life motivated him to lay the foundation for the "Engaging Heaven Church."
In 2008, Engaging Heaven Church began as a small business on Masonic Street in New London, Connecticut. Pastor James founded Engaging Heaven Church intending to see the Lord touch New England again, and the fires of revival and awakening re-lit and blazing brightly in the cradle of the Great Awakening. People from various areas of life can grow to spiritual maturity in the Lord at our local Church, which has a broad congregation.
"Early Christians worshipped and encouraged one another in their homes, the modern-day counterpart of local church meetings (Acts 2:26, 16:40; Philemon 2)."
James and Debbie desire to see Jesus' fullness displayed on this world, beginning here in New England, the cradle of the Great Awakening. Revival is more than a one-time event; it is a way of life realized by people who fall in love with Jesus and give Him their time and energy.
