Christian Braun posted 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists as No. 4 Kansas defeated Iona 96-83 on Sunday in the consolation bracket of the ESPN Events Invitational in Kissimmee, Fla.
Braun scored 13 of his points in the first half as Kansas (5-1) never trailed. Braun made 8 of 15 shots from the floor, including 2 of 5 from 3-point range.
The Jayhawks also got 17 points from Ochai Agbaji, 13 from David McCormack and 11 from Remy Martin. Reserve Mitch Lightfoot had 10 points.
Iona (6-2) lost its second straight game since shocking 10th-ranked Alabama in the first round of this eight-team tournament on Thursday night. The Gaels got 14 points each from Tyson Jolly and Ryan Myers, and 13 points from Walter Clayton Jr.
No. 7 Villanova 72, LaSalle 46
Collin Gillespie totaled 13 points, six rebounds and five assists as the Wildcats never trailed and cruised to a rout over Big 5 foe LaSalle at the Palestra in Philadelphia.
Brandon Slater added 12 and five rebounds while Eric Dixon and Caleb Daniels contributed 11 apiece as Villanova (4-2) shot 43.1 percent and made 35.5 percent (11 of 31) of its 3-pointers. Dixon also grabbed eight rebounds as Villanova controlled the glass by a commanding 50-30 margin.
Khalil Brantley scored 17 points as LaSalle (2-3) shot a dreadful 25.5 percent and misfired on 15 of 21 3-point tries. Jhamir Brickus added 13 for the Explorers, whose other two losses this season went to overtime.
No. 10 Alabama 96, Miami 64
Reserve freshman point guard JD Davison provided a spark with 13 points and a game-high 10 assists as the Crimson Tide caught fire and rolled past the Hurricanes in the last game of the ESPN Events Invitational at Kissimmee, Fla.
Keon Ellis scored a career-high 22 points as Alabama (6-1), which trailed by nine points with about seven minutes left in the first half and missed 10 of its first 11 3-pointers, finished 2-1 in this tournament.
Miami (4-3) was led by Kameron McGusty, who had 21 points and 10 rebounds. The Hurricanes also got 14 points from Isaiah Wong and 12 from Charlie Moore. They went 1-2 in the tournament.
No. 13 Arkansas 76, Penn 60
JD Notae scored a game-high 28 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out five assists as the Razorbacks Arkansas built a 22-point second-half lead and cruised past the short-handed Quakers in Fayetteville, Ark.
Stanley Umude added 19 points and Au'Diese Toney chipped in 12 for the Razorbacks (6-0), who made 50.8 percent of their field-goal attempts and outrebounded the Quakers 44-28. That made up for committing 15 turnovers.
Clark Slajchert scored 25 points to pace Penn (3-6), which was playing its ninth game in 19 days. Lucas Monroe added 14, but the Quakers couldn't find enough offensive punch without leading scorer Jordan Dingle (19.6 ppg) in the lineup.
No. 21 Seton Hall 84, Bethune-Cookman 70
Jared Rhoden scored 18 points, Alexis Yetna had a double-double and the Pirates overcame a one-point halftime deficit to beat the visiting Wildcats in Newark, N.J.
Yetna scored 14 points and grabbed 13 of the Pirates' 42 rebounds. Seton Hall (5-1) found its groove in the final 12 minutes and utilized a 23-3 run to get away for good.
Joe French had a game-high 30 points to lead Bethune-Cookman (1-6), accounting for his team's final 14 with the game far out of reach. Marcus Garrett added 11 points, all in the first half.
No. 23 Florida 84, Troy 45
Myreon Jones and Tyree Appleby each had 12 points to lead the host Gators to a comfortable win over the Trojans in Gainesville, Fla.
The Gators (6-0) jumped all over the Trojans in the first four minutes with their defensive pressure and scored the first 13 points of the game. Six Gators scored in double figures as Anthony Duruji and Phlandrous Fleming Jr. each finished with 11 points. Fleming also had six rebounds.
Troy (4-3) had its short two-game winning streak snapped, and only Duke Deen scored in double figures with 10 points. The Trojans were held to only 2 of 16 shooting from 3-point range and shot 32.1 percent (18 for 56) overall.
